The Green Beach
The beach at Ballum used to be the widest beach on Ameland. Over the years, it has grown into a unique and untouched nature reserve. Where else will you find that!
Mudflats
A feeding ground for thousands of birds, a painting of gullies and prods during low tide and a beautiful backdrop for sunrise. Enjoy this unique area.
Bird watching hut
Hidden in the dune area between Hollum and Ballum you will find the bird hide. Follow the paths, enjoy the sounds and don't forget to bring your binoculars!
Unique history
The Lighthouse
A visit to Ameland's lighthouse is a must. After a steep climb, you will have a breathtaking view of the dunes, the sea and the mud flats at the top of the tower.
The horse rescue boat
This unique event shows what a rescue at sea used to look like. Many lives have been saved through this unique collaboration between man and horse.
Commander's houses
These historic houses from the Golden Age can be found in the villages of Hollum, Ballum and Nes and are part of Ameland's cultural heritage.
Whaling
Several Amelanders made money hunting and catching whales. Several things on the island still remind us of this prosperous time.
